Cues

Legacy

For many years I have made custom cues, from scratch, to a customers exact specification of woods and sizes etc..

Alongside this, I have introduced various 'standard' ranges over the years which covered the most popular styles and patterns of the moment.

I've experimented endlessly with various aspects like splice lengths, joints etc., but balancing the needs of customers who want one-offs with the majority who just want a great playing cue, at the right price, is tricky to say the least.

I believe the cues I produce now benefit immensely from my years of experience and innovation, and represent the absolute ultimate in cue design and playability. Put simply, my legacy to cuemaking in general and the life long career I found myself strangely drawn into.

So, whether you choose a cue from my new Legend Series, Shark Series, or a VCM Custom Cue, rest assured that you are getting the very best money can buy. It will play and 'feel' superb. Guaranteed.

The Pursuit Of Excellence

Given the choice, I recommend a 1pc cue because I believe it provides the very finest 'feel' of all. However, some players prefer the convenience of a jointed cue, so the quest for a superior feeling jointed cue has long been an issue.

After many years of experimentation, and often 'giving in' to the 'demands' of customers, I have settled on what I believe gives the closest 'feel' to a 1pc, but with all the benefits of a jointed cue.

Paramount in this design is my new F1 joint. Very fast, and with a critical wood to wood contact, this join brings jointed cues as close to a 1pc 'feel' as possible.

Shaft length and overall weight are other equally important factors. So much so, that all my new designs are based around the classic design and splice length of a 1pc cue.

The benefit of a longer shaft section is improved 'feel', and the weight distribution is closer to a 1pc, resulting in an all round superior weight/balance ratio.

Ultimately, that's all that really matters. Great playing cues...

VCM Custom vs Legend vs Shark

Don't waste your time worrying whether one type of cue is 'better' than another, because the are all great playing cues. Fact.

All benefit from the same attention to detail, finishing, and level of quality that is synonomous with the name Mike Wooldridge - recognised the world over as a benchmark for others to try and match.

Regardless of whether it is a custom cue order, or a standard cue available from stock, the craftsmanship will be to the highest standards, e.g. nice even splices.

They are ALL selected from the SAME professional playing grades of timber. In playing terms, there will be NO difference at all.

So, whether you choose from stock or order a custom cue, you can be safe in the knowledge that you really are getting the BEST quality playing cue regardless.

Hint

If you are on a budget, Shark Cues are the answer. In playing terms, they do the job as well as any cue.

Sin Bin

Occasionally, during final sizing/finishing, what initially appeared a 'good' bit of wood may fall short of the standards expected. Or possibly a small mistake is spotted…

These cues are perfectly good to play with, but in my eyes, may not quite be up to scratch for one reason or another. I don't like any of my cues to go out with anything that a customer, or someone else who sees it, can complain about. No matter how small.

In the past these cues ended up gathering dust in a forgotten corner of the workshop, but now I've decided to offer any 'dodgy' cues at discounted prices as and when they turn up. It's such a waste of an otherwise good cue. More than likely still better quality than my competitors...

At the end of the day, they are good playing cues, and to be honest, 99% of people may never notice, or even care about any minor 'defect' in appearance.

So there you have it, keep an eye on the online shop for any 'rejects' and grab yourself a bargain.
